Mobil 1 Ambassador - Peter Brock AM

The management and employees of Mobil Oil Australia were shocked and saddened
to hear of Peter Brock’s sudden and tragic death on Friday, 8th September 2006.
Peter was a valued partner of Mobil’s for more than twenty years. He worked
closely with our company and his many other loyal sponsors throughout his
motor racing career.
No other driver in the history of Australian racing could challenge Peter’s
domination of Australian motor sport through the 70's, 80's and 90's. Ten
times winner of both the Bathurst 1000 and Sandown 500 races he retired as a
driver in V8 Supercar racing in 1997 after an outstanding career. He was
recently voted the second best touring car driver - ever. It was his humble
modesty in acceptance of these honours that further enhanced his legendary
appeal.
Peter was also very active in the wider community, spreading the road safety
message through his support of the .05 drink-driving campaign, working as a
board member of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, the Australian Motor
sport Foundation and as Chairman for Handbrake Turn. Peter also established
and maintained his own charity, the Peter Brock Foundation, which provides
support and funding for people in need.
At the Sydney Olympics Peter was an official member of the team in the
capacity of Athlete Liaison Officer providing encouragement, motivation and
inspiration to the athletes, a position he continued in the Athens Olympic
Games in August 2004.
Peter's popularity and massive appeal with the Australian public was witnessed
in 2002 with the overwhelming positive reaction to his return to Mt Panorama
in the 05 Team Brock vehicle at the Bathurst 1000. In 2003, Peter could not
resist getting behind the wheel of the Monaro in the Nations Cup races in
addition to his participation in such events as the Targa Tasmania and the
Australian Safari.
In 2004 Peter set up his own "Team Brock" where he and son James, each driving
Monaros, contested the Procar Series in the Nations Cup races culminating in
the drive together at the Bathurst 24 Hour race. Team Brock also fielded two
other young drivers in the V8 BRutes series.
A further victory at the Mountain in 2004 with a win in the Monaro at the
Bathurst 24 Hour race proved he was an enduring champion.
Peter Brock met each new challenge with total enthusiasm and advised all
others to "Follow Your Dreams".
Peter was a passionate and dedicated ambassador for motor sport in Australia
and around the world. He will be deeply missed and on behalf of all of his
friends and colleagues here at Mobil, we extend our thoughts and deepest
sympathy to his family.
