Product Description
Mobilmet 402, Mobilmet 404, and Mobilmet 416 are high performance
mineral-oil-type, non-staining cutting oils. They contain a balanced
selection of additives that maximises performance. They meet the anti-weld
and lubricity requirements of moderate machining operations on most alloys.
These Mobilmet cutting oils do not stain either ferrous or nonferrous metals
during cutting operations and, likewise, will not stain after machining. The
non-staining nature of these oils permits their use where complementary oils
are required for the splash, hydraulic, or spindle lubrication systems of
metalworking machines, or where bronze or white metal is used in machine
components such as gibs or ways that are exposed to the cutting fluid. The
Mobilmet oils will provide good wear protection for such components, will not
corrode the bronze or white metal parts, and will protect ferrous metals
against rust. If these oils leak into the more active cutting oils, they will
not seriously affect their cutting efficiency. In machines where the cutting
oil leaks into the lubricant reservoir, the Mobilmet oils are ideal because
they perform satisfactorily as lubricants.
Mobilmet 402 is a light-coloured, low-odor cutting oil. It is intended
primarily for high-speed, deep-hole drilling and boring of all nonferrous
metals. It also is recommended for the general machining of free-machining
alloys, magnesium and free-machining brass, bronze, and phosphor bronze as
well as high-speed, light-feed machining of screw stock steels. In addition,
it can be used as a lubricating oil for certain high-speed spindles.
Mobilmet 404 oil is primarily a dual- or tri-purpose cutting oil for automatic
screw machine shops. It may be used as a cutting oil and/or a lubricating
oil. It offers high lubricity and maximum cooling on hard, clean-cutting
metals. This makes it especially suitable for high surface speed machining of
screw stocks, aluminum, and brass. It also can be used for the general
machining of nickel-tin-bronze alloys and the free-machining of steels, as
well as for severe cutting operations of difficult-to-machine non-ferrous
alloys, including silicon-copper, silicon-bronze, and copper-nickel. Such
multipurpose applications minimise contamination caused by leakage from the
lubricating system into cutting fluid reservoirs. Its outstanding lubricating
qualities provide cool-running spindles and long clutch life. Mobilmet 404
provides superior machining and lubricating performance plus the added benefit
of the virtual elimination of oil mist in high-speed machine tools. This
relatively light-coloured, transparent, low-odor oil has excellent oxidation
stability at higher temperatures and outstanding lubricating properties under
heavy loads and high speeds. It has excellent resistance to foaming, even
with excessive splashing, so that superior performance is provided in the
machine tool lubrication system. It will provide adequate film strength in
hot-running machine tool bearings under load.
Mobilmet 416 is a heavy-duty, medium-viscosity, dual- or tri-purpose cutting
oil. It offers superior cutting performance on free-machining stocks as well
as tough metals, even in severe machining operations. It is an anti-mist oil
and will not stain nonferrous metals. It is recommended for all kinds of
grinding operations, including heavy-duty grinding of stainless steels and
high-alloy steels. Mobilmet 416 reduces wheel loading, extends wheel life,
improves finishes, and lowers operating temperatures. Mobilmet 416 provides
excellent lubrication protection of machine tool system components under
conditions of heavy loads and high speeds. Its multipurpose capability
eliminates contamination caused by leakage between the lubricating oil and
cutting fluid reservoirs.
Features and Benefits
The Mobilmet brand of cutting fluids has gained a well-deserved reputation for
innovation and outstanding performance over the years. Mobilmet 402, 404 and
416 are important members of this family with their effective non-corrosive
additive and low-misting technology. This balanced formulation approach,
developed by our formulation technologists in conjunction with key customers,
yields superb performance in a wide range of machining applications, while
providing good complementary oil capability.
