Mobil SHC™ 632 synthetic gear oil helps mine extend equipment life and oil drain intervals
Extended oil drain intervals by more than500%
The subject mine runs an open pit that uses draglines and a 20-mile long conveyor belt system. The conveyor system must be available for operation 365 days a year to meet the mine’s production goals, so the company approached ExxonMobil engineers for a lubricant solution capable of enhancing equipment reliability and uptime.
ExxonMobil engineers recommended the use of Mobil SHC™ 632 synthetic gear oil in the mine’s 120 gearboxes. Formulated with high viscosity synthetic base fluids and a unique proprietary additive system, Mobil SHC 632 gear oil is designed to provide outstanding equipment protection and long oil life. ExxonMobil engineers also recommended implementing routine Mobil ServSM Lubricant Analysis to monitor oil and equipment condition.
After transitioning to Mobil SHC 632 synthetic gear oil, the mining company was able to achieve an average operating time in its gearboxes of 20,000 hours, while protecting internal components from wear-related failures for more than 60,000 hours. The company was also able to extend oil drain intervals by more than 500 percent compared with the previous mineral oil it used. Finally, switching to Mobil SHC 632 gear oil has helped enhance component protection, and reduce lubricant usage and maintenance costs for a total cost savings of US $200,000 annually.
