Komatsu PC80000 electric shovel
Coal mining company
A Colombian coal mining company operates Komatsu PC80000 electric shovels lubricated with Mobilgear™ 600 XP 220 gear oil, and the company was conducting oil drain intervals every 2,000 hours. However, given the lubricant’s outstanding performance capabilities, the company approached ExxonMobil to determine the possibility of extending lubricant life beyond its existing oil drain intervals.
ExxonMobil engineers recommended the company implement routine Mobil ServSM Lubricant Analysis to monitor the condition of the shovels’ swingboxes as well as the in-service lubricant. By monitoring equipment and lubricant condition, the company secured performance insights to develop an optimal drain interval recommendation.
By implementing Mobil Serv Lubricant Analysis, the company was able to safely extend Mobilgear 600 XP 220 oil drain intervals from 2,000 hours to 3,500 hours, which reduced used oil volumes by more than 1,150 gallons (4,353 liters) per year. This change also reduced maintenance workloads, increased equipment availability and generated company-estimated savings of US $518,268.
