Mobil Xtra™ EP WT is an additive top treat solution to boost the additives which unavoidably deplete whilst Mobil SHC™ Gear 320 WindPower is in service for such a long duration. It helps Mobil SHC™ Gear 320 WindPower achieve fill-for-life capability1 by retaining its performance regarding wear protection, corrosion protection and oxidation resistance.
Phosphorus being a key element present in anti-wear additives and convenient to measure in used oil analysis, Phosphorus depletion is useful as a criterion for both top treat addition amount and frequency.
Mobil Xtra™ EP WT is a top treat from a wind industry-focused suite of top treats ExxonMobil promotes to support in-service Wind Turbine Gear Oils ease of use in the field and to optimize wind turbine uptime. Mobil Xtra™ EP WT is a concentrate of additives formulated with the same additive platform as Mobil SHC™ Gear 320 WindPower.
Applications
Wind Turbine gearboxes operate under high stress, and in order to prolong oil life, Extreme Pressure (EP) and Anti-Wear (AW) performance are essential. Depletion of EP and AW additive is a natural mechanism that may be further accelerated due to operational malfunction.
Mobil Xtra™ EP WT was designed to be used in combination with Mobil SHC Gear 320 WindPower as an additive top treat solution, which helps the gear oil retain its performance throughout its lifetime.
Mobil SHC Gear 320 WindPower helps protect equipment and maintains excellent performance for the lifetime of the gearbox, helps provide smooth operations in virtually all typical operating conditions, and helps reduce downtime and maintenance costs*. As a result, and thanks to a thorough accelerated oil ageing testing program, Mobil SHC Gear 320 WindPower has demonstrated fill-for-life capability and ultimately its suitability of use throughout wind turbine gearbox lifetime of 25 years as certified by DNV2 .
This performance is conditional on the addition of Mobil Xtra EP WT Top Treat along the wind turbine lifetime as identified by an appropriate Used Oil Analysis program and adequate service scheduling.
In principle, when used in combination of Mobil SHC Gear 320 WindPower, Mobil Xtra EP WT should be added whenever Phosphorus depletion exceeds 150 ppm or every 5 years, whichever occurs first.
Mobil Xtra EP WT addition dosing should be adjusted according to the observed phosphorus depletion, given that 2% addition of Mobil Xtra EP WT means ~150 ppm Phosphorus boost.
