Mobil Centaur XHP™ 461 helps prevent unscheduled downtime*

transmission wheels gearbox

Situation
An Alabama coal mine operating tail roller sprockets lubricated with a lithium-complex ISO 220 grease experienced two failures over a three-month period, each resulting in an estimated five hours of lost production. In an effort to reduce component failures, the company approached ExxonMobil for a lubricant solution to address the failures, reduce related downtime and improve operational efficiency.

Recommendation
After evaluating the application and operating environment, ExxonMobil engineers recommended Mobil Centaur XHP™ 461, an ISO 460 bearing grease. Formulated with advanced calcium-sulfonate thickener technology, Mobil Centaur XHP™ 461 grease provides inherent extreme pressure properties and protection against water contamination in high-moisture environments.

Result
After the first three months in service, the company reported that Mobil Centaur XHP™ 461 grease helped eliminate the ongoing tail roller sprocket failure. Maintenance personnel reported that the company has experienced a company-estimated savings of $US 252,000 from lost production, labor and replacement parts. In addition, the company has experienced reduced operational safety risks due to having fewer man-machine maintenance interactions, as well as reduced unexpected downtime and improved productivity.
