Situation

A port container terminal responsible for loading and unloading container ships handles an average of more than 700,000 containers annually. To meet this high demand, the terminal requires maximum operational availability of its vehicles. In an effort to reduce maintenance downtime and increase equipment availability, the company approached ExxonMobil engineers for a maintenance and lubrication solution capable of extending oil drain intervals.

Recommendation

ExxonMobil engineers recommended the company use Mobil Delvac 1™ LE 5W-30 synthetic heavy-duty diesel engine oil for advanced wear protection and extended drain interval capability. Mobil Serv℠ Lubricant Analysis was also recommended to help the company monitor equipment and lubricant conditions. The program features scan-and-go sampling to help improve data accuracy and eliminate the time consuming sample labeling process.

Result

After switching to Mobil Delvac 1 LE 5W-30 oil and implementing Mobil Serv Lubricant Analysis, the company reports that it has extended oil drain intervals from 250 hours to 1,000 hours, which has helped increase the operational capacity of the fleet. This has also helped reduce maintenance downtime by 180 hours and lower waste oil disposal by 3,240 gallons.
