Mobil SHC™ Cibus 150 helps reduce equipment downtime and maintenance costs*
Customer annual savings of
US $325,000Situation
A Tennessee-based food processor operates meat grinders to package sausage. The machine’s gearboxes were lubricated with a standard 80W-90 lubricant, which are notoriously vulnerable to water contamination. Not surprisingly, maintenance personnel were detecting high levels of emulsification in the gearbox lubricant, and wasting significant labor costs on changing out contaminated oils. The company approached Best Wade Petroleum, an authorized ExxonMobil distributor, to determine a lubricant solution capable of resisting water contamination.
Recommendation
Working with Best Wade, ExxonMobil engineers recommended transitioning to Mobil SHC Cibus™ 150, a high-performance, NSF H1-registered synthetic lubricant. Formulated with a naturally high viscosity index and proprietary additive system, Mobil SHC Cibus™ 150 food grade lubricant has made an immediate positive impact. The excellent water separation allows the operator to quickly drain free- standing water from the bottom of the gearbox reservoir. This resulted in extended oil drain intervals and lower overall lubricant usage/disposal. In addition, with less water contamination the number of gearbox failures diminished, allowing for less machine interaction by maintenance personnel and more reliable production. These improvements generated a company-estimated annual savings of US $325,000.
