Situation
A global printing company experienced regular failures on the fan bearings of its Contiweb dryer, which operates at slow speeds and high temperatures. Despite trying several competitive greases, the company suffered from 16 bearing failures per year. In an effort to improve equipment reliability, the company approached ExxonMobil to identify a grease solution capable of protecting fan bearings and avoiding production interruptions

Recommendation
After analyzing the dryer’s grease delivery system, ExxonMobil engineers recommended switching to Mobil SHC Polyrex™ 462 synthetic grease. Engineered with Polyurea thickener technology, Mobil SHC Polyrex 462 provides excellent performance at temperatures as high as 170°C (338°F).

Result
After one year of use, Mobil SHC Polyrex 462 synthetic grease improved grease pumpability in the company’s dryer delivery lines and reduced bearing temperatures by as much as 9°C (15°F), which helped eliminate bearing failures and saved them US $34,000 per year in reduced parts and labor costs. Based on these results, the company recommended using Mobil SHC Polyrex 462 in its use worldwide operations.
