A South Carolina tissue mill operates packaging conveyors driven by 30 Tiger and Boston gear reducers. The company experienced an average of six gear reducer failures per year as a result of persistent seal damage on the gear reducer shaft. This led to lubricant leakage, which left the gear reducers insufficiently lubricated and posed a potential safety concern for personnel from the above-the-line conveyers. In an effort to improve equipment reliability, the company approached ExxonMobil to identify a lubricant solution capable of eliminating oil leakage.
ExxonMobil engineers recommended the company switch to Mobilith SHC™ 007 synthetic grease. As an ISO 460 grade synthetic base oil with special additive combinations, Mobilith SHC 007 grease provides excellent protection against wear, rust and corrosion. It is also engineered with a semi-fluid lithium complex thickener, which is especially useful for preventing leakage caused by damaged seals.
After transitioning to Mobilith SHC 007 synthetic grease, the company did not record a single mechanical failure on the packaging conveyer gear reducers. Despite the potential seal damage from the working environment, as well as the associated safety concern, the Mobilith SHC 007 synthetic grease helped mitigate leaking and exhibited excellent results.
The company reports that Mobilith SHC 007 synthetic grease reduced the plant’s costs for replacement conveyor drive parts and labor.
