Protecting hardworking engines in trucks and SUVs
Truck and SUV owners demand a lot from their vehicles, so extra engine protection is a must. Specially formulated for hardworking truck and SUV gasoline engines, Mobil 1 Truck & SUV advanced full synthetic motor oil is the right oil for the job. And we’ve got proof that it works.
5,000 pounds of towing and then some
An independent, third-party research facility tested towing conditions on a new 2018 Ford F-150 with Mobil 1 Truck & SUV oil in its engine. The goal of the testing was to see if Mobil 1 Truck & SUV oil could:
- Protect a hardworking engine while towing a 5,000-pound load for 57,600 miles
- Maintain engine condition throughout 120,000 total miles of testing
- Help extend engine life
A combination of test cycles simulated city driving, highway driving and towing. Oil changes were performed every 10,000 miles during the 120,000-mile test.
Reviewing the test results
At the end of the 120,000-mile test, the F-150’s engine was disassembled and carefully examined by a team of engineers. Oil analysis and inspection per industry standards were documented to measure the performance of Mobil 1 Truck & SUV oil.
Hardworking oil in a hardworking engine
Demonstrating resistance to oil breakdown
Even though the F-150’s engine encountered tough conditions during the test, engine performance was maintained as evidenced by engine cleanliness. One measure of engine cleanliness is the amount of sludge. Sludge ratings are made on a cleanliness merit basis. A rating of 10 designates a part completely free of sludge, and a lower rating number designates a part with increased accumulations of sludge. Based on average sludge and varnish ratings, Mobil 1 Truck & SUV oil provided excellent sludge and varnish control with very good performance against deposits.

Keeping hardworking engines running stronger for longer
Analysis revealed that Mobil 1 Truck & SUV oil provided outstanding performance throughout all testing conditions, keeping the F-150 running like new despite the grueling 5,000-pound towing test.

Wear metal results indicated outstanding protection of critical engine parts throughout the test.

The oil viscosity remained within the requirements for SAE 5W-30 grade throughout the test.

During each of the test’s 10,000-mile oil change intervals, no additional oil was required. Oil must be added when the oil level decreases by 1 quart.
