Mobil 1 Extended Performance is a synthetic oil designed to keep your engine running like new even during today’s longer service intervals. With Mobil 1 Extended Performance synthetic motor oil, you get proven protection up to 20,000 miles, guaranteed. It’s an advanced full synthetic formulation and offers outstanding all‐around protection that outperforms our synthetic blends and many of our regular full synthetic motor oils.
Mobil 1 Extended Performance synthetic oil is recommended for oil change intervals up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever occurs first. However, if your vehicle manufacturer recommends an oil change interval beyond 20,000 miles and Mobil 1 Extended Performance meets the performance level specified, you can be assured that Mobil 1 Extended Performance will go the distance.
You do not need to flush your engine prior to changing to Mobil 1 Extended Performance motor oil.
These claims relate to all typical consumer driving conditions, excluding those mentioned below. In other words, if you drive under normal conditions and use Mobil 1™ Extended Performance synthetic oil in your vehicle, the oil is guaranteed to protect your engine for 20,000 miles. We also recommend that drivers consult their owner’s manual while their vehicle is under warranty, and follow the guidelines set forth there. Additionally, we recommend that if consumers drive routinely in severe conditions that they follow the oil change interval recommended in their owner's manual for severe conditions. We define "severe conditions" as:
- Racing or commercial applications
- Frequent towing or hauling
- Extremely dusty or dirty conditions
FAQs for Mobil 1™
First, the performance of Mobil 1™ line of motor oils is more robust, especially in terms of low temperature pumping and flow. High‐temperature stability leading to protection against deposits is also superior. These attributes translate into less engine wear, which helps keep your engine running like new, and obtain long engine life. Synthetic blend oils lack the high level of performance of synthetic motor oils in the areas of low‐temperature performance and high‐temperature oxidation stability. The base stocks used in Mobil Super™, one of our synthetic blend motor oils, are of a high quality, but those used in Mobil 1 fully synthetic oils are better.
Many kinds of driving conditions qualify your vehicle for severe service oil change intervals, and Mobil 1 is ideal for this service. Severe service conditions can include, among other things:
- Trips of less than 10 miles
- Driving in cold weather
- Idling for extended periods
- Stop‐and‐go traffic
- Pulling trailers/carrying heavy loads
- Driving in dusty conditions
Under both normal and severe service conditions, Mobil 1 is engineered to provide performance reserves in the areas of sludge prevention, piston cleanliness, wear protection and high‐temperature durability.
Oil change intervals can be as short as 3,000 miles or as long as 20,000 miles on some new cars. We recommend that you follow the oil and filter change frequencies shown in your owner's manual, especially during the warranty period. With the high‐performance reserves of Mobil 1, you can have the confidence to go the full mileage or time frame recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Mobil 1 is especially suitable for the latest vehicles with extended drain intervals or vehicles with oil monitoring systems that vary oil drain intervals. To fulfill the requirements of the Mobil 1 limited warranty, Mobil 1 motor oil must be changed at least every 10,000 miles or your vehicle’s OEM recommended oil change interval, whichever is longer.
ExxonMobil does not recommend it. According to the American Petroleum Institute (API) and Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers (AAM), "certified oils eliminate the need for supplemental engine oil additives." In fact, the use of any oil supplement is not recommended by car manufacturers and may void a warranty.
You should follow the same environmentally sound procedures that you do with conventional motor oil. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) guidelines for disposal include:
- Do not dump used motor oil in the trash.
- Do not pour it on the ground or down the sewer or storm drain.
- Place the used motor oil in a closed container.
- Take it to a service station or a collection location that recycles used motor oil.
- Do not burn the used motor oil in a space heater.
- Do not mix motor oil with other substances, such as gasoline or antifreeze.
Many Exxon and Mobil service stations will take used motor oil from do‐it‐yourselfers and will follow EPA‐approved recycling practices. Please note that it is acceptable to mix used Mobil 1 with used conventional oil. In short, Mobil 1 should be disposed of in the same manner as used conventional motor oil.

Yes. High mileage engines – those with more than 75,000 miles – face a number of potential problems that high mileage oil is specifically formulated to address. Some high mileage motor oils, such as Mobil 1™ Extended Performance High Mileage, Mobil 1™ High Mileage and Mobil Super™ High Mileage, contain engine oil additives and conditioners that help to combat leaks, sludge and general wear and tear. The Mobil 1 lineup of high mileage oils, in addition to providing unsurpassed wear protection, is formulated with a higher base oil viscosity to help reduce leaks and provide better high temperature protection. High mileage oil helps extend engine life through these additives and conditioners, which make using a high mileage oil an important investment in your vehicle.

Mobil 1™ Extended Performance High Mileage and Mobil 1™ High Mileage motor oils are designed for high mileage vehicles that have been using conventional motor oils. It's true that most vehicles with more than 75,000 miles should be in excellent condition if Mobil 1 oils have been used regularly, and would not require some of the Mobil 1 Extended Performance High Mileage and Mobil 1 High Mileage benefits. However, many cars on the road today do not use synthetic oils, so we developed our high mileage oils specifically for these cars that would benefit from switching off conventional oil.
If your vehicle has been maintained well, Mobil Super™ High Mileage represents an excellent choice. However, if you believe your engine may have sludge through less‐than‐adequate maintenance practices, Mobil 1 High Mileage may be the more suitable selection. Mobil 1™ High Mileage helps reduce the sludge that other oils can leave behind, which can result in extended engine life. For severe cases where sludge and other heavy deposits are present, shorter oil change intervals of 3,000 miles are recommended as cleanup proceeds.

Mobil 1 0W‐20 and 0W‐30 Advanced Fuel Economy synthetic motor oils deliver up to 2 percent fuel economy improvement* and can save drivers more than $400 on gasoline over the life of their vehicles. That's a savings of about six cents per gallon of fuel. A typical passenger car with a 20‐gallon gas tank can go up to nine more miles on a tank of gas when using Mobil 1™ Advanced Fuel Economy in either 0W-20 or 0W-30. *Fuel economy improvement is based on a comparison versus those viscosity grades most commonly used and a potential 2 percent fuel economy improvement. Actual savings are dependent upon vehicle/engine type, outside temperature, driving conditions and your current engine oil viscosity. Savings estimates are based on a gasoline cost of $3 per gallon, average fuel economy of 22.5 miles per gallon, annual mileage of 12,500 and lifetime mileage of 150,000.
A potential 0.2‐2.3% fuel economy improvement can be obtained by switching from higher viscosity oils to a 0W‐20 or 0W‐30 grade. Actual savings are dependent upon vehicle/engine type, outside temperature, driving conditions and your current engine oil viscosity. The higher your current viscosity, the greater the potential for savings.
Industry data confirms that lower viscosity motor oils, like the 0W‐20 and 0W‐30 viscosity grades offered as part of the Mobil 1™ Advanced Fuel Economy line, contribute to improved fuel economy over the life of the vehicle. However, fuel economy improvement can be influenced by many factors, including your vehicle/engine type, outside temperature, driving conditions, adjusting tire pressure and your current engine oil viscosity.
Mobil 1™ 0W‐20 Advanced Fuel Economy meets or exceeds many new car warranty requirements where SAE 0W‐20 or 5W‐20 oil is recommended. Mobil 1™ 0W‐20 Advanced Fuel Economy provides the high temperature protection of 5W‐20 oils while offering improved fuel economy. FAQs for Motorcycle Oils
It's a little hard to generalize about the difference between Mobil 1 passenger‐car motor oils and Mobil 1™ motorcycle oils. That's because not all viscosities of Mobil 1 passenger‐car oils have the same levels of zinc and phosphorus, and there are even greater differences between the two Mobil 1 motorcycle oils.
- In general, Mobil 1 motorcycle oils have additive packages formulated for use in both motorcycle engine and transmission operation.
- For passenger vehicles, fuel economy and emission system protection are higher priorities. These require low phosphorus systems and the use of friction modifiers.
- Motorcycle oils do not require friction modifiers for fuel economy and for better clutch friction less/no friction modifier is optimum.
- Motorcycle oils allow the use of higher levels of anti‐wear additives such as ZDDP (phosphorous).
Plus there are the overall benefits of Mobil 1 synthetic oil compared to those of conventional motor oils, whether they be for passenger cars or motorcycles:

Mobil 1 Racing™ 4T 10W‐40 is designed for sport bikes. Most of these bikes have multi-cylinder/multivalve engines and use a common sump, which means the engine oil lubricates the engine, transmission and wet clutch. So unlike Mobil 1 for cars, Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W‐40 motor oil has no friction modifiers, which could lead to clutch slippage. The motorcycle oil also has more phosphorus/zinc for enhanced wear protection at high engine speeds and high loads. In addition, Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W‐40 has a high performance dispersant/detergent technology for better high‐temperature performance and engine cleanliness. Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W‐40 is also offered in a different viscosity grade than Mobil 1 for passenger cars.
Mobil 1™ V‐Twin 20W‐50 fully synthetic motorcycle oil is designed for air‐cooled, large‐displacement bikes. Because of their design, these engines can generate very high localized oil temperatures and high overall bulk‐oil temperatures. A typical air‐cooled V‐twin's rear cylinder gets a lot hotter than the front cylinder – it's a matter of airflow. When it's hot out and you're stuck in traffic, the oil temperature in a bike climbs rapidly. Above about 250 degrees Fahrenheit, conventional motor oil is going to break down. Mobil 1 V‐Twin 20W‐50 fully synthetic motorcycle oil is good to above 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Like Mobil 1 Racing™ 4T 10W‐40, Mobil 1 V‐Twin motorcycle oil has high levels of phosphorus/zinc and the same high‐temperature detergent technology for superior wear protection and engine cleanliness, even at elevated oil temperatures. Mobil 1 Racing™ oils offer high‐temperature protection at temperatures over 500 degrees Fahrenheit (260 degrees Celsius) and are suitable for temperature protection where supercharging and turbocharging is employed.
Oil drain intervals in racing conditions can vary widely. Depending on specific racing applications and conditions, intervals of 500 miles or more are attainable. When determining the correct interval at these extreme conditions, used oil quality should be monitored because each application and environment can be different.
There is no need to run a special break‐in oil if using Mobil 1™. Mobil 1 oil has a robust additive system that helps provide protection during break‐in as well as normal operation.
Mobil 1™ oils are compatible with most fuels; however, excess fuel dilution may require more frequent changes and used oil analysis for quality monitoring.

These oils are not recommended for wet clutch applications due to their high level of molybdenum.

Automotive street use oils that meet the latest industry standards are required to have a lower level of zinc and phosphorus anti‐wear chemistries than oils formulated years ago. The latest automotive street use engine oils are designed to be compatible with emission control equipment. Mobil 1 Racing oils are formulated with anti‐wear (zinc/phosphorus) chemistries at twice the level of automotive street oils to provide enhanced protection of highly loaded valve train systems found in some race engines. Based on the high level of anti‐wear chemistries, Mobil 1 Racing oils are not recommended for street use.

Simply follow these six essential steps for easy installation:
- Use the proper cap tool to remove the oil cap.
- Observe the positioning of the O-ring in the O-ring groove, then remove the old O-ring without damaging the plastic or metal cap.
- Clean the cap and housing carefully.
- Lubricate the new O-ring and cap seat completely with clean motor oil.
- Install the new O-ring in the O-ring groove so it does not touch the cap’s threads.
- Replace the cap and torque it with the correct tool to the recommended foot‐pound spec.
